Eyes Wide Shut

From some time in my early adulthood onward, I have had this peculiar phenomena occur. Periodically, when I lay down to sleep at night, I close my eyes, but I can still see the room around me. At first my body didn't know how to handle it. My eyelids would flutter in confusion ... open ... no shut .. see .. can't see. It was if my body didn't know which way to behave, seeing with eyes open or not seeing with eyelids shut, so went into spasmatic motion. Well, eventually, I trained my eyelids to just stay shut when this happened. Then, for a few minutes I can look around the room. It is as if all the physical objects are ghostly; there but made of energy, and not solid. This is usually a very calming experience and feels very natural, if only for a brief time. In fact it makes me wonder which is more natural; to see this way or with eyelids open.
