The World is a Stage
It occurred to me while sitting at work the other day that perhaps the whole Christ drama was just a staged event. Like a Greek play with all the parts being symbolic and allegorical. The details of who did what and when where unimportant, but perhaps the symbols had deep meanings for all of mankind.
The Cross is a symbol of the four elements and the physical universe. The symbolic Christ figure has his body nailed to this cross. Is this the predicament of all mankind? Their body pinned into the physical universe? Was the drama trying demonstrate that we can overcome this condition and raise up to a spiritual life unfettered by bounds of the physical universe? Perhaps it was the Christ in all of us that this drama was calling out to. He was showing us the way, that it can be done. There is no doubt that this drama stirs deep emotions, whatever its interpreted meaning. And it seems the implications reach deep into the collective souls of all mankind.
